About Iowa School for the Deaf
Overview of ISD
Iowa School for the Deaf has been helping students thrive, both academically and socially, since 1855. ISD is a language immersion program offering both day and boarding options. We provide individualized instruction for pre-school, K-12 and 12+ students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The school is financed primarily by state funding- families do not pay for tuition, room, board or transportation. Most students are from Iowa; however, there are agreements in place with some neighboring states for out-of-state enrollment.
Mission (Our Fundamental Purpose)
Iowa School for the Deaf prepares deaf or hard-of-hearing students from preschool through age 21 for life as literate citizens who contribute to society.

Vision (Our Preferred Future)
Iowa School for the Deaf is the statewide resource that provides education and outreach services optimized for students who are deaf or hard of hearing to prepare for adult life.
