Learning American Sign Language (ASL) will enable you to have direct, meaningful communication with your child. It will help them develop vocabulary and thrive with language access. Free ASL classes are offered both in-person and online.
On-Campus Bobcat Family ASL Class:
In-person Bobcat Family ASL Classes are for ISD families and any local families who have deaf or hard-of-hearing children. Classes are based on themes and are held Mondays at 6 p.m. Registration for this class is strongly encouraged.

More information and requirements for Bobcat Family ASL Class:
- Must be related to a child (birth-21) who is deaf or hard-of-hearing and who is a resident of Iowa
- First open to ISD families. Others are welcome if space allows, so please do register
- If siblings of a deaf child attend, they should be old enough to be able to sit still during class
- You can choose which evenings to attend based on the themes

Virtual American Sign Language Classes
Virtual ASL Classes are offered four times a year, in eight-week sessions. Sessions are made available by Iowa Department of Education and Iowa School for the Deaf. This is also for families who cannot attend on-campus Bobcat Family ASL Classes.
