Twelve ISD residential staff were among the three dozen schools for the deaf participating in the National Student Life for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NSLDHH) conference in late June. A variety of student life-related topics were offered at the conference location, held at the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe.
For Kevin Boyce, one of the ISD dorms residence managers, being among peers was an important takeaway from the experience. He stated the conference offered the opportunity for “…networking and knowing there are other schools and programs out there that have dealt with what you’re dealing with, know what you are going through.” He also found the conference challenged the attendees to “Walk the talk- be true to what you say you’re about and what your program is about,” he said.
2023 marked the sixth biennial conference of NSLDHH. Nearly 170 individuals attended.
